It’s the holiday season, aka the most wonderful time of year! Between studio closures, traveling, and spending time with loved ones, there are bound to be periods of time between your dedicated aerial arts or pole dance practice sessions. Many of us don’t have access to a pole or an aerial rig outside of the studio, and jumping back in after some time away might feel daunting. But don’t worry! Whether you’re taking a couple days or a couple weeks off from practice, we put together a quick list of helpful tips for making the most of your time off so you can return to the studio rested, inspired, and excited for another year of training. Stretch as often as possible This one is so important! While you might not be in active training, stretching helps your body maintain its range of motion and also helps prevent injury when you return to training. Plus, it’s just a great daily habit to loosen up your joints and connect with your body. Take walks Movement is so important, on and off your apparatus. While these breaks are certainly made for resting, don’t forget to get outside and take a walk to incorporate some gentle, easy movement into your day-to-day. It’s good for both your body and your brain, and while it doesn’t necessarily feel like it, it’s a sneaky way to get your exercise in while enjoying your time off. Stay hydrated With an influx of activities during the holidays, don’t forget to stay hydrated! A sufficient amount of water helps with digestion (bonus points for after your holiday feasts!), prevents muscle cramping (helpful for your return back to the studio), lubricates your joints (preventing joint pain), and so much more. Keep your water bottles filled so you can come back ready to tackle your next goal! Set goals A great way to keep the mental momentum while taking a physical break is to collect inspo and set goals for the new year. Want to incorporate more flexibility training into your practice? Write that down. Want to work on a specific move? Save an inspo video to show your instructor. Want to try a new apparatus? Let us know! Setting goals can help you return to practice with extra momentum and motivation. Truly rest! This time is about reflection and rest, so don’t forget to do just that! Give yourself grace, enjoy your time off from training, and soak up all the holiday cheer so you can return to your practice rejuvenated and ready for another year of crushing it.
