The costumes, the music, the freaky shapes…oh my! It’s almost Halloween—our favorite holiday—and we love a good spooky performance. With the right flair and execution, you can make almost any move shine in a ghoulishly-great routine. But if you’re looking for some particularly creepy shapes to inspire your next flow, we’ve gathered some of our favorites for a festive showcase, practice, or themed class. Gargoyle The name, the shape, the twisty-ness…this is a quintessential move in almost any Halloween-inspired routine. If you feel secure in your genie, this move may be your next challenge! Broken Doll Seemingly flexy and a little strange, this impressive-looking move is a great way to add some unsettling shapes to your routine—without actually needing to be super flexible. Start with your inside leg hang, twist your torso as you would in an Allegra, and then switch to your outside leg for this contorted look! Iguana Fang Fang legs give off an unnatural-looking, sharp shape, making this a great move to add to your flow! Start with your regular iguana, and then bend your legs into the “fang” shape to give it that scorpion-like figure. Mummy Ever played light as a feather, stiff as a board? This move is a fun way to incorporate others in a routine and showcase a seemingly gravity-defying stunt! Python This move has the ability to look really pretty, or really freaky, depending on how it’s paired with other moves. It’s deceiving in that it looks extra bendy (but it’s really not!), and is a great shape to whip out before or after other genie-adjacent moves like gargoyle for a spooky combo! Spider Nothing is spookier than a creepy crawler, and the Spider perfectly encapsulates that essence! With bent legs and an impressive looking entrance, this move is one that wows and one that unsettles…perfect for halloween! Levitation The name says it all. Set the scene with the eerie illusion of rising from the ground, perfect for a haunted, ghostly character in your spooky routine. Whether you’re embodying a zombie, a vampire, a ghost, or a possession, this move will fit in perfectly with the rest of your spooky choreo. Remi Sit This move is especially fitting for a witchy character! Add flair with your arms and your costume, and mesmerize your audience as you spin around in a seated position. Bonus points: it’s quite solid and comfortable once you’re in it, and it makes a great rest move between more difficult moves. It creates a nice opportunity to add some drama and theatrics to your routine, as you free up your hands! Pair these moves with a combo of lights, costumes, props, and music, and you’ll have a stunningly creepy and hauntingly memorable routine! Whether you’re gearing up for a full-fledged performance, or want some themed content for your page, we hope you give some of these moves a try before spooky season is over! (Though, we celebrate year-round over here.) If you want to learn fun moves like the ones above, join us for a weekly pole dance series in Frederick, MD!
