When a new student joins our studio for pole dancing or aerial arts, we discuss our options for enrolling in classes. We understand that trialing a new studio and a new art form is an important part of beginning your journey! That’s why instead of a typical class pack, we recommend what we like to call an Introductory Workshop, which is designed just for new students who are looking to get started. This workshop helps students get familiar with their apparatus, introduces beginner moves, and allows instructors to then place students in the appropriate level. We offer this workshop before a class series because first-time students can feel more comfortable by not jumping directly into classes without the proper preparation. From there, we usually recommend our students enroll in a tuition-based, 12-month series. These series are comprised of once-a-week sessions with progressive curricula aimed at skill building and style development. Why do we structure our instruction in this way? Let’s break it down. 1. We Encourage Consistency Our tuition-based instruction encourages students to stick with us while they’re learning. Oftentimes, new students give up after a few classes when their skills don’t match their pre-conceived expectations. We want students to understand that growth comes from consistent practice and the act of showing up for yourself. And with enough time and dedication, growth is inevitable! You’ll be amazed at what your body can accomplish when you put in the work and trust the process. 2. We Build Community Showing up week after week with the same instructors and students helps to create a sense of community and build lasting friendships! The studio is a welcoming and inviting place where there’s always a friendly face and someone to cheer you on. Plus, a community helps build accountability—it’s easier to stick to your commitments when there are other people invested in your growth! 3. We Develop Deeper Connections With Movement By following a structured path, the experience and knowledge that a student develops over time allows for a deeper connection to their movement, creating reference points and a more functional familiarity with the anatomy of their apparatus—and how to engage with it. Not only does this make learning new moves more intuitive, but it helps students express themselves more confidently. 4. We Believe Continuity Is Key Having the same instructor who understands where you’re at, how you’ve progressed, and what you’re capable of is crucial to safe and individualized instruction! This helps us challenge students appropriately, provide modifications when needed, and also to plan curricula with student progress in mind. While class packs may seem like a convenient way to get started, it’s not always the best, or safest, way to begin your pole dancing or aerial arts journey. Our progressive enrollment paths allow students to access continuous, curated instruction within their skill level as they build on their artistry and develop their own unique style!
